Implementation of V2G use cases ensuring the operation and management of the V2G sites

V2G Demonstrator

The goal was to develop and deliver V2G use cases, ensure O&M of the V2G sites for the duration of the pilot project, define a strategy, and assess the value of V2G.

Context

  • A utility company requested our support to develop Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability and manage V2G delivery use cases in a pilot project to showcase and test V2G.
  • There are currently 6 x V2G chargers installed.
  • Support needs related with the development, set up, configuration and operation of the V2G chargers were also established.

Challenge

SEL was contracted to:

  1. Implement the pilot V2G use cases applying SEL’s EV management software in two layers
    • OCPP low level layer: monitoring and control of V2G chargers
    • Use case management layer: implementing client use cases
  2. Guarantee the O&M of the V2G sites, including the routers for monitoring V2G connections, PV and building consumption

Outcomes

SEL implemented peak shaving by developing and deploying an advanced algorithm to minimize consumption during peak load periods across six V2G sites. The effectiveness of this approach is demonstrated as shown.
